IPU lecturer speaks to Massey University students about strategy in the hospitality industry
On Thursday, 24 May 2018, Glen Hepburn gave a guest lecture to postgraduate students at Massey University’s Business School in Palmerston North. Glen was invited by Professor Christian Felzensztein to speak to students in his Advanced Strategic Management paper about strategy in the hospitality industry.
His talk began with an interactive discussion about what corporate strategy entails. Glen then presented several key models and tools used in strategy formulation, before discussing the application of these strategies in the hospitality industry. He focused particularly on the cultural dimension and related challenges of implementing trans-national strategy.
Glen was accompanied by his colleague Dr Eisaku Tsumura, who also participated in the interactive discussions. After the talk the three lecturers discussed their shared desire for further collaboration between the IPU New Zealand and Massey University business faculties. Professor Felzensztein said he was pleased that his students were able to benefit from Glen’s twenty years of teaching hospitality and ethics at the prestigious Hotelschool The Hague in The Netherlands.
